Take a Seat!
Posted by Donna Airoldi on July 21, 2006The Zuca Sport bag came to my attention too late to be included in the Luggage & Leather Goods feature in the August issue of Incentive, but it fits right into the trend on bags becoming more multifunctional, as well as ergonomic.
ZÜCA, a Campbell, Calif.–based luggage company has introduced the Zuca Sport, what the company claims is the first rolling carry-all with an integrated seat —
perfect for all those long waits at the airport. It features a silent dual wheel system for easy stair and curb climbing, and an interchangeable inner bag that allows owners to update their bag as often as they change outfits. The lightweight
aluminum frame can support up to 300 pounds and meets airline carry-on
regulations: 10" wide x 14" x 18" (12.5" wide incl. wheels). It's available in a variety of colors and designs, and costs $120 to $130; replacement insert bags, $25 to $45.
According to its Web site (www.zuca.com), the company was founded two years ago by Laura Udall, a mother of three who was distraught about the health risks her children were facing from carrying their heavy backpacks. After conducting research, she formed ZÜCA, which is dedicated to creating healthy products for the mobile lifestyle.
The bag was originally designed for school children, but parents were buying ZÜCA's for themselves as well as their children. The site adds that ZÜCA was recently presented as the gift bag of the Entertainment Weekly Emmy pre-party and as the “high roller” gift bag for the 2004 Radio Music Awards in Las Vegas.
Udall also plans to create a ZÜCA foundation that is focused on children’s health issues.
