What Will they Think to Brand Next?: Egg-vertising

Posted by A.E. Smith on July 17, 2006

20060717_eggfusionA little CSI with your bacon? The verbal puns run wild at CBS, in this New York Times article today about the network's plan to promote its fall lineup by imprinting slogans on eggs; egg-vertising, as the addled copywriters are calling it [ba-bum-ching!]. The service was developed by Deerfield, Il. company EggFusion to label eggs with expiration dates, but the potential to bring ads to your breakfast table did not long escape the notice of marketers. CBS apparently has exclusive rights to use the service this fall, but then it's off to the fryer.

Now, we at the Perk begrudge no one a good pun, but is this ploy all it's cracked up to be? If the jibes of the highly-paid CBS marketing team are anything to go by--Hard-Boiled Drama and Funny Side Up are two stellar examples--watching the network this fall is no reason to skip dinner.
