New from CES
Posted by Leo Jakobson on January 11, 2007The Consumer Electronics Show wraps up today in Las Vegas, and as usual, there are plenty of new goodies to whet the appetites of your tech-lusting incentive program redeemers.
Yes, there were a lot of HDTVs released, but you’ll have to wait for Incentive’s March feature story on HDTV’s to learn about those. In the meantime, here are some devices for the HDTV owner who wants to take advantage of that superior picture quality, from a format-war-defeating high-def DVD player to a trio of new HD camcorders:
LG Electronics' LG-BH100 dual-format high definition DVD player can read both HD DVD and Blu-Ray DVD discs, making waiting to see who wins that particular little format war moot. At $1,200, it produces true 1080p high definition video (the highest quality) and will be in stores in February.
Sony produced several new HD camcorders, winning a CNET Best in Show award with the HDR-HC7, available in February for $1,400. It uses a new technology (with the consumer-friendly name “XvYCC color,” try promoting that in a catalog) that can capture more colors then previous technologies. A version that records to DVD will be out a month later for $100 less. In that vein, Panasonic’s HDC-DX1 (records to DVDs) for $1,399.95 and the HDC-SD1 for $1,499.95 (records to an included 4GB SD memory card) high definition camcorders will both ship in March. And Samsung has unveiled its first HD camcorder, the SC_HMX10, but that’s not due until September.
